DEVELOPING YOUR THIRD EYE, WHY AND HOW TO DISASSOCIATE NEGATIVE EMOTIONS
Having an objective view of your focal dystonia symptoms is a crucial skill to have, but it could be very difficult to do at first.
It is particularly difficult because most likely, you have strong negative emotions associated and ingrained in your dystonic movements. And...we all know how emotions cloud objectivity. You have despised your dystonic symptoms over and over again and by now, you have negative charge such as anger, withdraw, loss, betrayal, depression, anxiety, grief, regret, sadness and so on.
As difficult as this may seem, it is absolutely necessary that we put these emotions aside, especially when we are training. To recognise the new habit that we are trying to make, it must have pattens and elements such as emotions distinctively different from the old one. Since clinging to negative emotions will only reinforce the old habit, it's in our best interest to leave those aside when you're trying to form a new better one.
Another reason is that we only strengthen new ideas or form habits by feeling good and by releasing feel good hormones such as dopamine. We are more likely to retaining the new habit when your mind perceives more benefit than the downside by feeling rewards such as achievement, accomplishments, wins and gains, which are completely the opposite of negative emotions.
But how to dissolve negative emotions from your dystonic movements?
You can start practicing objectivity by imagining having a new sets of view, or a third eye if you will, and let that be the truth seeking eye for the cloudy thoughts.
Imagine that you brand new third eye has no attachment to any emotions. This is your clean filter and it will see the symptom as it is and not how you feel it is. You can start doing this right away. When you have negative emotions creeping up, the third eye will observe them and just let them be present, but it will be involved in objectively seeing things happen. Do not proceed with the training when your third eye have perceived any form of negative emotions come up for the reasons mentioned above. Stop what you're doing and simply walk away from the instrument.
Having the third eye has the added benefit of having somewhere else to go when you are feeling stuck and emotionally charged.
